MI squad IPL 2024: The highly anticipated IPL 2024 mini-auction unfolded at the Cola Arena in Dubai on December 19. All ten teams arrived with their strategies aimed at fortifying their squads with the required players.

Their acquisitions began with the signing of Gerald Coetzee from South Africa, who was secured after a bidding battle with the Lucknow Super Giants, fetching a price of five crores. Following this, they added Dilshan Madhushanka, the left-arm fast bowler from Sri Lanka, to their roster. The third purchase of the day was Shreyas Gopal, a leg-spin bowler from Karnataka, acquired for a mere 20 lakh, a strategic move to provide backup leg-spin options with the experience of Piyush Chawla already in the squad.

The fourth addition to their squad was Nuwan Thushara, another fast bowler from Sri Lanka renowned for his slingy bowling action reminiscent of the great Lasith Malinga. Mumbai Indians secured his services for 4.8 crores. Following this, they acquired Naman Dhir, an uncapped Indian all-rounder, for 20 lakh. Anshul Kamboj, another uncapped Indian bowler, became their sixth acquisition of the day, also secured for 20 lakh. Their next purchase was Mohammad Nabi, the Afghan all-rounder, whom they acquired at his base price of 1.5 crore.

Reflecting on their previous season’s performance, Mumbai Indians finished in the fourth position in the tournament with eight wins and six losses in their 14 league games. However, they were defeated by Gujarat Titans in the second qualifier. Suryakumar Yadav emerged as the highest run-scorer for MI, amassing 605 runs in the 16 games he played. On the bowling front, veteran Piyush Chawla emerged as the highest wicket-taker for the team with 22 wickets to his name.
